All About Eastriding Spaniels

For Kelly Jenkinson of Eastriding Spaniels kennel, a love of animals & breeding has deep roots.  It all began with her grandmother on their family farm in the East Riding of Yorkshire.  At just 5 years old Kelly began showing Shih Tzu’s for her Great Aunt and soon took an interest in Junior Handling.

Kelly would later win the Junior Handling semi-finals twice and the runner up Junior Handler of the Year and win the KCJO stakes finals at Crufts & also Runner Up two years later.

She received her first English Springer Spaniel as a gift from her father in 1990 from Wendy & Ken Willey of the Speeton Kennel.  Soon after that she purchased what would become her foundation bitch for the Eastriding kennel, “Rosie” (Chetruda Yorkshire Rose of Eastriding) bred by Val Lockhart.

Growing up in the breed, Kelly was mentored by many with her mum at her side. But, she was most notably taught by Mrs Jean Taylor of the world famous Cleavehill kennel.

Sadly in 2004, Mrs Taylor passed away, but left 3 of her dogs to Kelly, one of which was a Cocker Spaniel. Kelly in turn took the opportunity to carry on the bloodlines that Jean had so carefully bred for over 40 years.

Over the years, we have been lucky enough to produce dogs that have being awarded multiple CC’s, producing 4 homebred UK show champions, 10 overseas show champions to date, […including some of the first ever UK bred English Springer American Champions..] also being awarded over the years, Crufts Best of Breed Winner, Top Breeder, Top Dog, Top Sire, Top Bitch, Top Brood Bitch and Top Black & White.

We continue to strive to breed healthy dogs that are fit for function and continue with the testing and breeding from clear & unaffected dogs. It is important that we and all breeders help to improve our lovely breed and that progress is made towards developing DNA testing.”

In 2008, Kelly found passion in her first judging assignment. Today she is a UK Kennel Club Accredited Championship Show judge and has also enjoys judging on the continent under FCI regulations.

She enjoys breeding & exhibiting her English Springer Spaniels, Cocker Spaniels and the occasional Miniature Wire Haired Dachshund.  She is proud to be one of the noted kennels for producing quality Black & White English Springer Spaniels.
